WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) announced that George L. Beck has been nominated by President Obama to serve as United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama.  Mr. Beck has been a shareholder of Capell & Howard, P.C. since 2004.  He was sole practitioner from 1986 to 2003 and from 1979 to 1982, and was partner at Baxley, Beck, Dillard & Dauphin from 1982 to 1986.  From 1971 to 1979, he served as Deputy Attorney for the State of Alabama.  Prior to serving the State of Alabama, Mr. Beck worked as an associate at St. John & St. John from 1966 to 1971.  Mr. Beck served our country honorably, and is a veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard having served over 30 years and retired at the rank of Colonel.  Mr. Beck is a graduate of Auburn University and The University of Alabama School of Law.

U.S. Attorneys are nominated by the President of the United States and must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. U.S. Attorneys are responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the federal government, the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party, and the collection of debts owed to the federal government.
