Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement today ahead of the President’s State of the Union address this evening:

“Tonight, I hope the President focuses on not what divides us, but on what unites us as Americans – a deep respect for our neighbors and a love of our country.

“The President has a chance tonight to change his tone and lay out his vision for a plan that will benefit every American, from lowering health care costs by reducing the price of prescription drugs, to investing in our crumbling infrastructure, to continuing our fight for equality and justice by reforming our criminal justice system, to reducing the plague of gun violence.

“We are strongest when we work together. We need a President who will not only call for more bipartisanship, but shows he is willing to work in a bipartisan way to improve the lives of everyday Americans.”

Rep. Sewell invited Tiphanie Carter, the wife of fallen Birmingham Police Department Sgt. Wytasha Carter, to be her guest to the State of the Union.
