Lowering Rx Drug Costs

Thanks to Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act, Medicare is now able to negotiate the prices of certain prescription drugs to make them more affordable for seniors and for people with disabilities.

In August 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration announced the 10 drugs covered under Medicare Part D selected for the first cycle of negotiations. The new, lower pries go into effect in January 2026. They range from 38 to 79 percent discounts off of list prices.

In January 2025, the Biden-Harris Administration announced the selection of 15 additional drugs covered under Medicare Part D for price negotiations. These drugs treat common conditions like type 2 diabetes, asthma, COPD, and obesity. They inlclude:

In accordance with the Inflation Reduction Act, the negotiations with participating drug companies for these 15 drugs will occur in 2025 and any negotiated prices will become effective in 2027.
