Alabama House members from both sides of the political spectrum found inspiration in the words of Pope Francis, who on Thursday became the first pope to address a joint session of Congress.

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, commended Francis for invoking the Civil Rights movement -- including the Selma to Montgomery marches, which led to the Voting Rights Act -- in his speech as an example of America's contributions to the common good.
