Washington, DC—Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) released the following statement after voting in favor of the EPA Regulatory Relief Act of 2011, H.R. 2250:

“Today,  I voted in favor of the of the EPA Regulatory Relief Act of 2011, H.R. 2250, a bill that reaffirms Congress’ commitment towards striking a balance between promoting job creation, protecting the environment and promulgating agency regulations. While this bill is not perfect, it is an important step towards advancing the dialogue between federal regulators and the numerous industries that create jobs and provide economic stimulus to this country.  It also gives our businesses time to implement these important policies in a way that makes environmental and economic sense.

It is important that we provide the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with enough time and guidance to draft regulations that are both environmentally conscious and practical for workers and businesses. In these recovering economic times, it is important that any new regulation helps businesses grow and encourages job creation. We cannot afford to implement rules that have a negative impact on our manufacturing sector or threaten jobs in Alabama. With additional time and guidance, I am confident the EPA can continue to develop proposals and regulations that help our environment, work for businesses and workers, encourage job creation and strengthen economic development.”
