Press Releases

Washington, D.C. –Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) released the following statement regarding the expiration of Trade Adjustment Assistance benefits:

“Tomorrow, the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program will expire, and hundreds of trade-impacted workers in the 7th Congressional District and thousands more in the State of Alabama and across this country will lose their benefits.  Those who receive TAA benefits are hard-working Americans, who lost their jobs through no fault of their own.  The assistance they receive helps them to provide for their families and get the re-training they need to be prepared for new employment opportunities and to stay competitive in a changing economy.  Rebuilding the U.S. economy means more than just opening up new channels for trade.  It also means guaranteeing that American workers have the tools they need to find good-paying jobs and successfully reenter the job market.  It is my hope that Congress works together to extend this vital assistance.”
