WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) announced that $47,500 was awarded to the City of Jackson to improve runway safety at Jackson Municipal Airport.  The U.S. Department of Transportation funds were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration.

“This funding will improve runway safety at Jackson Municipal Airport,” said Rep. Sewell.  “This funding opportunity will create jobs and ensure the safety of passengers.  These are the types of funding opportunities that will make our 7th Congressional District stronger.”

“The airport has some engineering work that needs to be done, and this grant will help us accomplish it,” said Mayor Richard Long.  “We really appreciate everything Congresswoman Sewell has done to help us.  This is certainly a welcome surprise.”

According to the project description, the project will improve the runway safety area for Runway 19.  Jackson Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport associated with Jackson, Alabama.
