WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) announced that $69,234 was awarded to Perry County Airport and Industrial Authorityto build new perimeter fencing and create a plan to build a Fuel Farm. The U.S. Department of Transportation funds were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration.
“This funding will help the Vaiden Field Airport repair and update their existing facilities and prepare for expansion, which will help attract new business,” said Rep. Sewell. “When new businesses are attracted, jobs are created and more goods are transported across the country. These are the types of funding opportunities that will make our 7th Congressional District stronger.”
“This is great news,” said Colonel Bill Hansen, Director of Vaiden Field Airport. “Vaiden Field is a very important infrastructure hub in the Black Belt, and these projects allow us to bring in more air operations that generate revenue for the area. We really appreciate everything that the Congresswoman does to get these grants through for us.”
According to the project description, the funding will be used to install perimeter fencing, which will deter unauthorized persons and vehicles from entering onto the airfield. The funding will also reimburse the airport for the construction of a new Fuel Farm. Vaiden Field Airport is a general aviation airport associated with Marion, Alabama.
