U.S. Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) today released the following statement to commemorate Labor Day:

"Today we honor the hard-working Americans who built this great nation and celebrate their achievements. They are the backbone of our country and its enduring spirit. Without them, we would not have many of the modern conveniences we often take for granted in our everyday lives. As we celebrate this Labor Day with parades, picnics, and barbecues, we must not forget that far too many hard-working American families continue to struggle in this tough economy.  We have made great progress in turning our economy around, but much more must be done to create jobs. I know that so many Americans want to get back to work, and I know our small businesses want to expand and add more jobs. I will continue to fight for hard-working Alabamians and Americans by working to strengthen economic development,  create jobs and ensure that America's businesses compete on an equal playing field in global markets. Let us continue our commitment to helping all families pursue the American Dream by pushing for jobs with fair pay, good benefits,  and  safe working conditions."
