Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell was appointed by U.S. House Democratic leadership to join the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. As a member of this Committee, Congresswoman Sewell will play an integral role in advancing the Democratic agenda that includes paycheck fairness, job creation, middle class growth and deficit reduction.

The House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee is responsible for developing an agenda to address our nation’s most critical issues. In addition, this committee is responsible for recommending other Democrats in Congress for various appointments and committee assignments.

Sewell. “The issues of job creation, economic development, and deficit reduction are critically important to my constituents in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. Congresswoman Sewell adds this new appointment to her other leadership positions in the 113th Congress. Sewell was also selected by U.S. House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer to serve as one of the ten Chief Deputy Whips for the Democratic Party. Through this position, she is responsible for helping the Democratic Party mobilize the party vote on important legislation and serving as a liaison between the Members and the Caucus helping to build strong support for the Democratic agenda. Congresswoman Sewell also sits on the House Financial Services Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
