Press Releases

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement regarding FY2013 Continuing Resolution, Defense and Military Construction/VA Appropriations Bills:

“Today, I opposed the House Republican FY2013 Continuing Resolution because it does not address the irrational and harmful cuts of sequestration. Though I would have liked to vote for the defense funding included in this package, this bill greatly underfunds vital programs that protect public health and safety, promote workforce development, and ensure our children are educated for the future. The people of the 7th Congressional District and this nation deserve better.

We must develop a fair and balanced plan that raises revenue and strategically cuts spending. Until we craft a solution that makes critical investment in programs like education, affordable healthcare and workforce development, our nation’s families and communities will continue to suffer. I sincerely hope that we can put partisan differences aside and develop a sustainable bipartisan solution.”
