Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day, which will be observed May 27:

“On this Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the service and sacrifices of so many brave servicemen and women who gave their lives defending our great nation around the world. We owe a great debt of gratitude to the willingness and commitment of our troops who have answered the call of duty so we can enjoy the freedoms that we do today.

We also honor the men and women who are currently serving in our armed forces, including all of the individuals from the 7th Congressional District and the State of Alabama. You make all of us very proud.

As some of us gather with our families and loved ones this Memorial Day weekend, let us renew our commitment to keep our promises to our nation’s troops and veterans. The rights and freedoms we enjoy every day come at a great cost and sacrifice by our armed services, veterans, and families and we must ensure they get the care they deserve and the benefits they have earned. We also pause to thank and honor the families of our fallen heroes. Their legacy and their service of will forever live on in our hearts and memories.”
