Press Releases

Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) issued the following statement after voting against H.J. Res.59:

Today, I voted against H.J. Res 59, the House Continuing Resolution, because it doubles down on the sequester, permanently defunds the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and was designed for the sole reason of shutting down the federal government. This resolution advances an agenda which threatens our most vulnerable constituents and the entire American economy. Shutting down the government on such partisan grounds is a reckless neglect of our responsibility to protect our constituents and the American people. We invest in what we value. Therefore, if we value our future we must come together in support of policies that strengthen investments in education, healthcare and the American workforce.
