Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement in observance of Veterans Day. This holiday will be observed on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

“Today we pay tribute to our nation’s brave service men and women for their immeasurable contributions. Across generations, our veterans are bound together by their willingness to lay their lives on the line to fight for liberty around the world and freedom and democracy here at home. They represent the very best of what our country has to offer.  In return, we must fulfill our sacred obligation to take care of them and their families.

It is a grave injustice when one who fights for our country returns home to fight for affordable housing, quality healthcare, or a good paying job. We must work together to eradicate the systematic hurdles faced by many of our veterans as they try to attain the benefits they have so courageously earned. Today, may we recommit ourselves to expressing the gratitude of a grateful nation.

We must also express our solemn gratitude to the troops and reservists who are currently serving in our armed forces. These brave men and women and their families remain in our thoughts and prayers as they risk their lives in the name of liberty and freedom.”
