Press Releases
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day:
"Today, we come together to honor our nation's fallen heroes – those men and women who gave of themselves until they had nothing left to give. We stand inspired by the strength and resolve of their sacrifice. Let us uphold our obligation to comfort and care for the families they left behind and make sure those who return home receive the benefits they so rightfully deserve.
We acknowledge that no statement or ceremony can repay the solemn debt we owe. Our gratitude must be displayed in the support we provide to our service members and their families when they return home. No one who fights for our country should have to return home and fight delays in receiving health care or obstacles to attaining a job. As a nation, providing support and care to our veterans and their families is one of our most fundamental obligations. The courage and sacrifice our nation's service men and women compels us to do no less.
As we remember and honor our nation's fallen heroes, we must continue to ensure that our nation's service members have the support and care they and their families need while they serve and after they return home. Congress must continue to ensure that our policies reflect this sacred commitment."
