Rep. Sewell on CBO Score: Trumpcare Will Cost Lives
May 24, 2017
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report showing that the healthcare repeal bill which passed the House this May would eliminate healthcare coverage for 23 million Americans. For sick patients in states which waive essential health requirements, CBO predicts that healthcare coverage could become unaffordable and likely unattainable. Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) releases the following statement:
“Today’s new score from the CBO confirms that Trumpcare still contains the same terrible policies that have mobilized Americans nationwide against the GOP healthcare repeal bill,” said Rep. Sewell. “This bill remains a bad deal for Alabamians – eliminating coverage for 23 million Americans, cutting Medicaid by $834 billion and penalizing older Americans and those with pre-existing conditions. That is a lose-lose proposition for the American people.”
“Make no mistake, a bill that kicks 23 million people off of insurance will cost lives. Our access to affordable care is a fundamental right, not a privilege, and I will continue to oppose any legislation that takes that right away from millions of Americans.”
