Washington, D.C. – In a memo reported today, former FBI Director James Comey claimed that President Trump urged him to “let this go” in regards to the FBI’s investigation of Michael Flynn. Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, releases the following statement:
“The independence of our law enforcement agencies from the reach of the White House is a fundamental feature of the rule of law in our country,” said Rep. Sewell. “If true, James Comey’s reported allegations suggest that our President may have tried to obstruct the FBI’s investigation into a matter of national security. The House Intelligence Committee has a responsibility to get to the bottom of these claims, and I will work with Members on both sides of the aisle to bring Comey back to the Committee to gather more information. The American public is tired of attempts to derail, dismiss, and devalue this investigation, and I will settle for nothing less than a full account of Comey’s meeting with President Trump.”
