Rep. Sewell Statement on Release of Democratic Memo
February 24, 2018
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday, the House Intelligence Committee released a redacted Democratic memorandum that counters Republican allegations against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ). The release of the document, available here, was previously blocked by President Trump.
“The Democratic memo released today confirms that the FBI had ample reason to believe Carter Page was acting as the agent of a foreign power and that the FBI acted appropriately in their investigation of Page,” said Rep. Terri Sewell. “It is deeply disturbing that the White House delayed the release of this memo in an effort to mislead the American public and discredit the FBI. Now that Republican attacks against the FBI and DOJ have been debunked, it is my sincere hope that the House Intelligence Committee can focus on the investigation of Russia’s attack on our democracy. With the 2018 elections looming, it is critically important that we get to the bottom of Russia’s meddling and work to protect our elections from further interference.”
