Washington D.C. — Today, U.S. Reps. Terri Sewell (AL-07) and Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) sent a letter calling for the immediate removal of the Freedom Rides Museum from the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) list of properties slated for sale.

“The museum serves as an essential historical landmark that not only honors the legacy of the Freedom Riders but also educates the public about our nation's struggle for equality and justice,” Sewell and Figures wrote. “Given its historical and cultural significance, we strongly encourage the GSA to remove the Freedom Rides Museum from the list. It is crucial that we preserve such landmarks, which are integral to understanding our shared history.”

In today’s letter, Sewell and Figures highlighted the historical importance of protecting the museum that honors the courageous individuals who fought for civil rights during the Freedom Rides of 1961. Sewell and Figures emphasized the importance of preserving this historic site as a vital part of our nation's shared history and struggle for justice.
