Press Releases

Washington, D.C.—Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) released the following statement in recognition of Labor Day, which we will observe on Monday, September 5, 2016:

“On Labor Day, we honor the hardworking men and women of the American labor movement whose strength and tenacity paved the way for the economic prosperity of our great nation.

“While we have made great strides to ensure the safety of our workforce, we still have many hurdles to overcome. Working Americans are the strength of our society and we must continue to support them. We have a duty to empower the American people not by words alone but through vigilant action. We must continue to fight to raise the federal minimum wage, support the importance of work-life balance, ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work, safeguard paid maternity leave and protect the right to retirement security. We must fight for all our workers so they can reap the benefits they have earned through their hard work.

“This Labor Day, let us reflect on those Americans who fought for fairness in the work place and rededicate ourselves to the fight for greater security and equality for all working Americans.”
