WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) announced that $274,283 was awarded to Demopolis Municipal Airport to improve runway safety.  The U.S. Department of Transportation funds were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration.

“This funding will improve runway safety at the Demopolis Airport,” said Rep. Sewell.  “This funding opportunity will create jobs and ensure the safety of passengers.  These are the types of funding opportunities that will make our 7th Congressional District stronger.”

“This is exciting news,” said Julian Sawyer, Demopolis Municipal Airport Manager.  “This funding will help us clear the approach to the airport, and do it without affecting runway length.”

According to the project description, the project will improve safety at the airport by relocating a road out of the runway safety area for Runway Four.  Demopolis Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport associated with Demopolis, Alabama.
