Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement in recognition of Father’s Day:

“On this Father’s Day we pause to celebrate the influential men in our lives who have helped to guide and shape us.  I am thankful for my father, who has battled several debilitating strokes over the years, but continues to be a true inspiration to me and so many others throughout his more than 30 years as a high school basketball coach.

I applaud President Obama’s Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative, which for the past three years has worked to raise awareness about the importance of fatherhood and the special connection fathers have to the strength of our families and our communities.  I also want to acknowledge my colleague, Rep. Danny K. Davis’ tireless efforts with the Fatherhood Coalition and promoting the important role fathers play in the lives of our children.

As we come together with our families and loved ones today, let us take a moment to recognize our fathers and their influence on our lives. I know I would not be where I am today without the love, support and guidance of my daddy, Coach Andrew Sewell. So to my father and all of the special men in our lives, Happy Father's Day.”
