“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of a great mentor, colleague, legislator and friend, Congressman Donald Payne. Congressman Payne was a gentle giant in the House and his unparalleled leadership inspired all of us to seek a higher level of global consciousness. He was passionately committed to advancing human rights and equality at home and abroad. Congressman Payne’s legacy of strengthening international relations and restoring hope and democracy in Africa and across the world will live on forever. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and constituents during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed.”
