Today, Congresswoman Terri Sewell and Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Federal Co-Chair Earl F. Gohl announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission is providing a $368,000 grant to recruit, train, and prepare workers for Alabama’s automotive industry. Shelton State Community College and the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce will administer the program that will focus on workforce development in Hale County, Alabama.

“I am thrilled that Hale County has been chosen to receive a workforce development grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission. Closing the skills gap for the workforce in the 7th Congressional District of Alabama continues to be a major priority for my office,” said Rep. Sewell. “A strong and vibrant workforce is imperative to the growth and prosperity of Alabama’s Black Belt.

"Creative community partnerships are the key to economic success." said Earl Gohl, Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission. "Investing in this collaboration between Shelton State Community College and the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce will help Hale County's workforce reach its full potential and engage in a global economy."
