AL.com: Terri Sewell opposes renaming Selma's Edmund Pettus Bridge
Count U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, among those against the Alabama state Senate's push to rename the iconic Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma.
The congresswoman and Selma native said the symbol of the civil rights movement should keep its name as a reminder of the Bloody Sunday violence 50 years ago and the Selma-to-Montgomery freedom marches. The senate passed a resolution Wednesday to rename the bridge, but the measure doesn't have support from the Alabama House, which won't even be considering the measure.
