Congresswoman Sewell Announces $ 4,565,580 in Funding for Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) announced that $4,565,580 was awarded to the Birmingham Airport Authority to improve two of the airport’s terminals at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. The U.S. Department of Transportation funds were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration.
“This funding will improve the current facilities and enhance safety at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport,” said Rep. Sewell. “This funding opportunity will create jobs and ensure the safety of passengers. These are the types of funding opportunities that will make our 7th Congressional District stronger.”

"This grant will enable us to continue Phase 2 of taxiway A rehabilitation and to construct terminal apron pavement for aircraft using future concourses A and B."
According to the project description, the project will improve safety at the airport by constructing terminal apron pavement for aircraft using concourses A and B. Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is a small-hub primary airport associated with Birmingham, Alabama.
