Press Releases

Washington, D.C. –Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) released the following statement regarding President Obama's budget proposal:

"Today, the President released his budget for Fiscal Year 2012.  My office received a copy of it this morning and I will carefully analyze it to determine how it could affect the 7th Congressional District of Alabama and our nation.  We all must roll up our sleeves and make some tough budgetary decisions that will lower our deficit and move this country forward.  The President’s budget makes important investments in education, infrastructure and innovative programs yet it includes a combination of cuts to various programs that must be carefully reviewed.  Our national budget must make important investments in job creation and put our nation on a long-term path toward fiscal sustainability. However, we must carefully look at each program and reduce or eliminate unnecessary tax breaks, close tax loopholes and eliminate wasteful or duplicative programs.  The President’s budget makes significant investments in job creation, and I share his vision of out-building, out-innovating and out-educating our competitors around the world.  If implemented, it would reduce our nation’s deficit by 1.1 trillion dollars over the next decade.  This multifaceted approach will require fiscal discipline, and I look forward to working with the Administration and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address this very important issue."
