Press Release
Part of an ongoing effort to find solutions to blocked railroad crossings in the 7th District

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) had a very productive conversation with the Acting Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Amit Bose, about the blocked railroad crossings that have plagued Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. Congresswoman Sewell and the Administrator are focused on finding solutions to reduce the number and duration of blocked crossings in the short term while also finding long-term structural solutions to provide permanent relief for urban and rural communities.

As the only member of the Alabama Delegation to vote for President Biden’s transformative Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Rep. Sewell is thrilled that critical new funding will be directly allocated to solve blocked rail crossings. Rep. Sewell also plans to host a roundtable with Acting Administrator Bose to discuss critical funding in President Biden’s infrastructure bill and hear directly from community leaders and local elected officials about the rail crossing issues throughout Alabama’s 7th District.

On November 8th, Rep. Sewell sent a letter to Acting Administrator Bose requesting a meeting and urging swift action on the issue.
