Rep. Sewell Statement on GAO Report Affirming Decision to Locate U.S. Space Command Headquarters in Huntsville
Washington D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement regarding the release of the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) report to Congress which affirms the Air Force’s decision to locate the U.S. Space Command headquarters in Huntsville, Alabama. The GAO’s report follows the release of a report by the Pentagon’s Inspector General which found that the process for selecting Huntsville was reasonable and complied with the law.
“The GAO report to Congress confirms that Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama is the best place for the U.S. Space Command headquarters. From the very beginning, I have stood by the Air Force’s decision to locate U.S. Space Command in the Rocket City. I’m grateful to the Pentagon IG and the GAO for conducting these reviews, which showed that throughout the Air Force’s evaluation process, Redstone Arsenal was always considered the most qualified location for U.S. Space Command headquarters.
“I am happy that the GAO and the Pentagon IG confirmed what we have always known to be true—there is no better home for U.S. Space Command than the Rocket City! Alabamians are thrilled that we will continue to play a leading role in the United States’ mission to promote the responsible and peaceful use of space while deterring foreign space-related aggression.”
