Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price came before the Ways & Means Committee for a hearing on President Trump’s HHS Budget. Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL), a Member of the Ways & Means Committee, questioned Sec. Tom Price on President Trump’s failure to fulfill previous commitments to protect Medicaid funding and to fully fund other health commitments.

Watch Rep. Sewell’s full remarks in the HHS hearing with Sec. Tom Price.

“President Trump’s failed promise to protect Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security will go down as one of the most damaging backtracks in recent presidential history,” said Rep. Sewell. “No spin from HHS Secretary Tom Price can disguise the fact that this Administration’s cuts to Medicaid will leave millions without health coverage, hurt struggling hospitals, and limit access to care for our most vulnerable children. In addition, the HHS budget proposed by our President cuts the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, strips rehabilitation services, and defunds NIH health research at institutions like the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I believe we need to recommit ourselves to addressing the health challenges our country faces, not back away from those challenges and the patients who need our support.”
