Press Releases

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement in observance of the second anniversary of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes that devastated the State of Alabama and tragically claimed the lives of 253 people, including 76 deaths in the 7th Congressional District:

“Two years ago, we experienced extensive damage and unimaginable tragedy as some of most powerful tornadoes in our nation’s history swept across our state. And now as we reflect on April 27th, we are reminded of the courage and generosity of so many resilient Alabamians who came together to help our state recover and rebuild. We have made significant progress the last two years and I remain committed to helping our state move forward.

I especially want to commend our local, state and federal officials who continue their coordinated efforts to make our state whole again. I also want to honor the first responders who answered the call of duty and pay tribute to those who lost so much that tragic day. I am confident our communities will continue to return stronger and better than before.”
