Congresswoman Terri Sewell released the following statement in response to the death of Anthony Dewayne Ware, a Tuscaloosa resident who collapsed and died after being pepper sprayed during an arrest by Tuscaloosa police.

“My thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by this unfortunate tragedy. Since Anthony Ware’s death, I have been in contact with local authorities to ensure that this case receives a thorough review and investigation. I join the community’s call for transparency and swift communication as we seek to learn more about the details surrounding the case.

“It is my hope that the video footage of the arrest and the autopsy report will shed new light on this horrible tragedy. I have been following this case very closely, and will continue to monitor new developments.”
