Press Releases
Washington, DC—Today, Rep. Terri A. Sewell issued the following statement on the return home of nearly all of the American forces in Iraq:
“President Obama kept his promise to end the war in Iraq. After nine years, nearly 40,000 American soldiers will be returning home in time for the holidays. America owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who have risked their lives to protect and defend our freedoms.
To the members of our armed forces returning home from Iraq and their families: there is no tribute, no commemoration, no praise that can truly match the magnitude of your service and your sacrifice. You bore the ultimate sacrifice so that we all can live in a free society. You are very much a part of our nation’s fabric— your strength is America’s strength. I salute each one of you for your sacrifices and selfless commitment to serving America.
I know that communities in the 7th Congressional District, the State of Alabama and across this nation will welcome our troops home with open arms and a commitment to helping them transition back to civilian life. It is now our responsibility to fight for our troops like they have fought for us. We must make sure they have the care and benefits they have earned.
Well done soldiers! Welcome Home!!”
