Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell Honors Fairfield High School Math Club as They Prepare to Compete in the 14th Annual Harvard MIT-Mathematics Tournament

 

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell joined the student body of Fairfield High School at an academic pep rally as they celebrated the school’s mathematics team’s upcoming trip to Cambridge, Massachusetts to compete in the 14th Annual Harvard-MIT Math Tournament. The Congresswoman presented the team with a Congressional proclamation congratulating them on their great achievement.  

“The Fairfield Math Team and its coach Ms. Vonda Davis have committed themselves to reaching new heights in achieving academic excellence,” said Rep. Sewell. “Their dedication and hard work are what have earned them this opportunity to compete alongside the best and brightest students in the nation. We all expect great things from them and wish them luck on their trip to Harvard in February.”

The Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament is a highly competitive tournament that promotes mathematical curiosity in high school students and has brought in nearly 900 competitors from across this nation and the world. This is the first time students from Fairfield High School will compete in the tournament at Harvard.
