Statement by Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell in Observance of Labor Day
September 2, 2012
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) released the following statement to commemorate Labor Day:
"Today we honor the contributions and achievements of the hard-working men and women who built this great nation. American workers are the beating heart of this country and its enduring spirit. Without them, we would not have many of the modern day technologies and innovations we often take for granted in our everyday lives. While our economy continues to recover, we must not forget that American workers are the backbone to this nation’s prosperity. Their hard work and dedication is the key to our nation’s economic recovery and sustainability.
We must continue to be vigilant in strengthening the middle-class by staying on a path that encourages job creation, strengthens economic development and supports the millions of Americans struggling during these recovering economic times. Let us continue our commitment to helping all families pursue the American Dream by fighting for equal pay for everyone, quality and affordable benefits and creating highly competitive American jobs in every business sector.
I look forward to continuing to work with the President and my colleagues in Congress to promote efforts that stimulate our economy, create jobs, strengthen small business development and reduce our deficit. We must act now to develop a bi-partisan solution that puts millions of Americans back to work and gives working families the support they need and deserve.”
