June 4, 2013
Washington, DC — Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement after attending the announcement ceremony at the White House where President Barack Obama announced his selection of Ambassador Susan Rice for National Security Adviser:
“I applaud President Obama for selecting Ambassador Susan Rice to become the next National Security Adviser. In addition to having outstanding academic credentials and exemplary diplomatic experience, she has served as a distinguished member of the President’s cabinet since January 2009. As U.N. Ambassador, she promoted peace and security in regions plagued by poverty, economic instability and crisis and championed U.S. national diplomatic interests and security abroad. Ambassador Rice is an outstanding American diplomat and has served our nation with great honor and dedication. As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I have complete confidence that Ambassador Rice will serve this nation well and will protect our national security interests. I am proud to call her my dear friend and I look forward to working with her in this new capacity.”
