Selma, AL – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) hosted a tele-town hall with rural hospital administrators to discuss the future of the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid. Hospital administrators from across the Black Belt counties were invited to participate and provide written feedback.

“In the coming weeks, Congress will be debating Republican proposals to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which include changes to Medicaid and Medicare. The feedback I received from our rural administrators on today’s call gave me valuable insight into what progress made under the ACA needs to be built upon and how we can improve access to care for rural Alabamians,” said Rep. Sewell. “The rural hospitals in Alabama care for older, sicker, and lower-income populations and therefore rely heavily on Medicare, Medicaid, and cost sharing subsidies under the ACA. I believe many of the proposals included in Republican plans will have a significant negative impact on rural providers and the communities they serve. As a member of the Health Subcommittee on the Committee on Ways and Means, I look forward to bringing the concerns I gathered today back to Washington as we debate these critical issues.”

The Tele-Town Hall marks Rep. Sewell’s third event in the 2017 “Protect Our Healthcare” Tour. In addition, she has launched an online portal for Alabamians to share their healthcare stories. “Whether you are insured through the Affordable Care Act, have private insurance, are covered under Medicaid or Medicare, or remain uninsured, I want to hear from you on what healthcare coverage means to you and what we in Washington can be doing to improve the quality of care and coverage for you and your family.”
