WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, Republican lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee abruptly and unilaterally announced an end to the investigation into Russia’s attack on the 2016 presidential election and U.S. election infrastructure.

Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell releases the following statement:

“For any American who cares about the integrity and security of our elections, today’s unilateral decision by House Republicans to end the investigation into Russia’s attack on our democracy is nothing short of shameful. Agencies and officials in our intelligence community have publicly highlighted Russia’s interference, but Republicans would rather turn a blind eye than uncover the extent of wrongdoing. There is still so much work left undone by our Committee, from witnesses that should be compelled to testify to phone and text records that should be subpoenaed. It is truly disheartening to see a Committee which was once the gold standard for bipartisan cooperation cave to political pressure to cut the investigation short. As the Mueller investigation, the media, and our Senate counterparts continue to uncover the story behind Russia’s attack, this Committee’s failure to complete its investigation will be sadly apparent.”
