WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the University of Alabama and Clemson University prepare to compete in the College Football Playoff National Championship game, Congresswoman Terri Sewell (AL-07) and Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) made a friendly wager on which team would win the national title. At stake – Chic-fil-a and bragging rights. The game on Monday, January 7, will be the third championship matchup between Alabama and Clemson in the past four years. Alabama beat Clemson for the 2015 season title and lost to Clemson in the 2016 national championship.

“There would be no better way to kick off the new year than winning another national title for Alabama!” said Rep. Terri Sewell. “Rep. Jeff Duncan is a brave soul for accepting this year’s wager given Alabama’s unparalleled record of 17 National Championships. The Clemson Tigers might have a strong team this year, but I have no doubt that the Crimson Tide will roll right over them in tonight's championship game. I look forward to seeing Rep. Duncan dressed once again in the Crimson and White after another Alabama victory! Roll Tide!!”

“The best way to start 2019 would be with another Clemson Tiger College Football National Championship victory!” said Rep. Jeff Duncan. “The Tigers have been looking unstoppable this season under the leadership of Dabo Swinney, and I know they are going to play tough against the Alabama Crimson Tide to bring home another championship. I am predicting a “birthday win” tonight with the Tigers on top when the clock runs out – I’m ALL IN.”

If the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide secures a victory, Congressman Duncan has agreed to wear the trademark Bear Bryant houndstooth hat and an Alabama necktie for a photo on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, and will provide Chic-fil-A for the Congresswoman and her office.

Should Clemson University’s Tigers win, Congresswoman Sewell has agreed to treat Congressman Duncan’s office to Chic-fil-A and will pose for a picture on the U.S. Capitol steps dressed in Clemson apparel.

This is the fourth year that Reps. Sewell and Duncan have bet over the Alabama vs. Clemson game. Pictures of Reps. Sewell and Duncan following the 2015, 2016, and 2017 season wagers are available here.
