WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07), a member of the Ways & Means Subcommittee on Trade, released the following statement today after the Trump Administration announced it will delay for an additional 180 days a final decision on costly new tariffs that could harm the auto industry:
“The fact that the Trump Administration is putting off for an additional 180 days a final decision on whether to implement tariffs on the auto industry is proof positive that our auto manufacturers are not a threat to American national security.
“While this latest decision is an indicator that the Trump Administration has heeded the consistent warnings of the nearly 160 lawmakers who have urged the Administration not to implement auto tariffs, it highlights the lose-lose situation that the Trump Administration has inflicted upon the auto industry and the thousands of hardworking men and women it employs. The uncertainty is hurting the industry every day, and I urge the Administration to immediately make a final determination against implementing 232 auto tariffs.”
