Press Releases

Birmingham, AL- On Thursday, November 12th from 10:00-11:30 A.M. CST, Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-AL) will host a virtual Grants Workshop LIVE via Zoom focused on funding opportunities at the US Department of Justice (DOJ) entitled--“Navigating Justice Department Grants: Bridging the Gap Between Community & Police”. This virtual event is FREE and open to the public. Registration is required via Eventbrite found on the home page of Rep. Sewell's official website at Sewell.house.gov.

"I am excited to host this virtual grants workshop focused on the many funding opportunities available at the Justice Department. Participants will receive critical information about how to apply and win DOJ grants that support programs and initiatives like crime prevention, child abuse, youth engagement, domestic violence, drug abuse & prevention, mental health, human trafficking, and greater community and police cooperation. Applications for many of these DOJ grants can be made by community-based & faith-based organizations, non-profits, legal aid groups as well as state, city and county law enforcement,” said Rep. Sewell. “This year, DOJ has made changes to their grant application process, so it is imperative that all applicants understand the new system.  Too often communities and organizations are unaware of the grant opportunities that are available. This virtual workshop will provide detailed information on the funding opportunities at DOJ that can assist in creating safer, more informed and healthier communities.”

The virtual workshop will feature representatives from Alabama law enforcement, legal aid, nonprofits, grant writers as well DOJ officials to provide participants with an overview of Justice Department Grants and important application deadlines.
