Birmingham, AL – Yesterday, Congresswoman Terri Sewell (AL-07) hosted the first virtual Military Service Academy Preview day via Facebook Live with representatives from all 5 Military Service Academies and the Marion Military Institute. The panelists provided presentations about the admissions process, resources and scholarships available for students, and their personal experiences as U.S. Military Service Academy students or graduates.

"I hope all graduating seniors in Alabama's 7th District will consider applying to a U.S. Military Service Academy for college. I can attest to and hope all were able to witness during our presentations that it's a great way to get a scholarship for a great education, but also is a wonderful way to learn, see the world and serve your country," said Rep. Sewell. "It is a requirement that you serve a minimum of 5 years in our nation's military. What a wonderful opportunity the U.S. Military Service Academies provide. Remember, the deadline is FRIDAY, November 6 to apply by mail through my Birmingham office!"

Military Service academy nomination applications are being accepted by Rep. Sewell's Birmingham office by MAIL until the November 6, 2020 deadline.

Background on Service Academies

There are five Service Academies: The United States Air Force (USAFA), Naval (USNA), Army at West Point (USMA), Merchant Marine (USMMA), and Coast Guard (USCGA) Academies. Nominations are required for all but the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, to which appointments are made on the basis of their independent application process.
