Rep. Sewell Statement Ahead of State of the Union
February 3, 2020
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement Tuesday ahead of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address:
“Dr. Maya Angelou famously once said, ‘When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.’ The Trump Administration has showed the American people over and over what they stand for: stripping health care protections for the more than 2 million Alabamians with pre-existing conditions, slashing funding for hungry families and children, separating families, cutting taxes for the ultra-rich and supporting policies that make it more difficult for Americans to cast their vote on Election Day.
“So, I challenge the President tonight not to make empty promises. Work across the aisle to achieve real, positive change – to make health care more affordable and accessible, bring more opportunities to rural and underserved communities and unify the American people.”
