January 27, 2023
Washington, D.C. — Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced his committee appointments for the 118th Congress, appointing U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) as a member of the House Administration Committee. Rep. Sewell will continue serving on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee and was appointed to serve on three subcommittees in the new Congress: the Health Subcommittee, Trade Subcommittee, and Worker and Family Support Subcommittee.
“I am honored to be appointed to the House Administration Committee which oversees the operations of the House of Representatives,” said Rep. Sewell. “This Committee also provides oversight of the administration of federal elections and plays a central role in ensuring every American has access to the ballot box. In keeping with the rich voting rights legacy of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, I am excited to use my position on this committee to advance our critical work of protecting the sacred right to vote for all Americans.”
“I am thrilled to be continuing my service on the House Ways and Means Committee,” continued Sewell. “I remain committed to using my position on this powerful Committee to make our tax code fairer, expand access to affordable health care, protect Medicare, strengthen Social Security, and advance trade policies that uplift communities in Alabama and across the nation.”
The House Administration Committee is charged with the oversight of federal elections and the day-to-day operations of the House of Representatives.
Rep. Sewell has served on the House Committee on Ways and Means since 2017, bringing her more than 15 years of experience as a securities and public finance attorney. The committee is the oldest of the United States Congress, and is the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The Committee has jurisdiction over all taxation, tariffs, and other revenue-raising measures, as well as a number of other programs including Social Security, Medicare, unemployment insurance, enforcement of child support laws, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and foster care and adoption programs.
