Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement following an announcement by Alabama Power to convert to natural gas at its steam plant in Greene County:

"While I respect the recent business decision made by Alabama Power to convert to natural gas at its facility in Greene County, I am disappointed that such a decision will negatively impact the employment opportunities in a county that can least absorb its effect. I strongly believe in government’s role in environmental policy; however I also believe that we must have a balanced approach to federal regulation such that the costs are weighed with the effects on job growth and economic impact. Although we must prepare to diversify our energy production, I am committed to supporting coal as a viable source of energy in Alabama until alternatives become more economically feasible.”
