November 30, 2023
Washington D.C. – Today, ahead of Saturday’s SEC championship game between the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia, U.S. Reps. Terri Sewell (D-AL), Robert Aderholt (R-AL), Nikema Williams (D-GA), and Buddy Carter (R-GA) announced a friendly wager on which team will prevail on the gridiron.
When the Alabama Crimson Tide are victorious, Bama fans Reps. Terri Sewell and Robert Aderholt will enjoy Georgia’s own Chick-fil-A courtesy of Reps. Nikema Williams and Buddy Carter.
If the UGA Bulldogs manage to pull off a surprise victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, proud fans Reps. Nikema Williams and Buddy Carter will enjoy a lunch of coveted Dreamland Bar-B-Que courtesy of Reps. Terri Sewell and Robert Aderholt.
“Our Georgia friends like to talk smack, but good luck stopping Jalen Milroe!” said Rep. Sewell. “I’m looking forward to the Tide ending Georgia’s winning streak on Saturday. Lucky for Congressman Aderholt and I, victory always tastes better with a side of chicken. The Tide is going to Roll in Atlanta!”
“Alabama and Georgia facing off in the SEC Championship, the National Championship or both, is becoming almost an annual tradition,” said Rep. Aderholt. “Something else that is a great tradition is Dreamland Barbeque. So, it’s a shame our Georgia colleagues won’t get to experience it. But I’m looking forward to that Chick-fil-A. Roll Tide!”
“The Georgia Bulldogs have feasted on every opponent for the last two seasons," said Rep. Williams. "I’m ready to feast on some barbecue when the Dawgs win their fifth straight game in Atlanta–their second home. Make no mistake I win either way because I’m a lifelong ‘Bama fan but this season the Dawgs have the edge.”
“Georgia playing Alabama at the end of the football season has become a holiday tradition, as has Georgia winning the SEC Championship,” said Rep. Carter. “Everyone knows that the far superior Georgia Bulldogs already have this in the bag and I’m excited to celebrate their victory with a side of BBQ. GO DAWGS!”
The Alabama Crimson Tide will meet the UGA Bulldogs at Mercedes Benz Stadium for the SEC Championship title and its associated congressional bragging rights this Saturday, December 2nd at 3:00 p.m. CST (4:00 p.m. EST).
