Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) hosted the sixth annual Congressional Job Fair. This year’s job fair was hosted at the University of West Alabama in Livingston to promote job opportunities in Alabama’s rural Blackbelt. The job fair featured over sixty major employers hiring in Alabama in industries ranging from the automotive industry to the military to health services. Over 600 attendees visited Thursday’s job fair in Livingston.

“One of my top priorities in Congress is creating an environment for job growth, wage growth, and a better future for Alabama families,” said Rep. Terri Sewell. “I am committed to bringing better job opportunities to Alabama’s rural Blackbelt. My annual job fair is an opportunity to jumpstart job growth in the 7^th District by connecting constituents directly with employers in the area. This year, we brought together employers from the manufacturing industry, health services, the military, and more in order to cater to constituents with a diverse range of work experiences.”

“Today was also a chance for me to talk one-on-one with workers and employers from the Blackbelt of Alabama. When I head back to Congress to work on issues like job growth and tax reform, constituent input is critically important. I look forward to continuing some of the conversations I had today in town halls later this year.”

In the days leading up to the job fair, Rep. Sewell also hosted a workforce training event at Shelton State Community College as part of her Project R.E.A.D.Y. initiative. Project R.E.A.D.Y. focuses on providing attendees with the tools needed to prepare for career readiness. The goal of Project R.E.A.D.Y. is to facilitate employment in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District by promoting job readiness, skills training, and career development.
