WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) released the following statement today in opposition to the repeal of the Affordable Care Act:

“While it is not a perfect bill, the Affordable Care Act is the first of many steps toward strengthening our health care system and is already helping to improve the lives of constituents in the 7th Congressional District and people all across the country.  This law puts Americans back in charge of their own health care, and reduces our deficit.

Voting for this repeal amounts to telling seniors that they have to return the $250 donut hole checks they received to help buy prescription drugs, telling young adults they may no longer stay on their parents' health plans, and taking away people's newly gained freedom from the fear of being denied care by insurers, being dropped from their health plan when they get sick, and from having double-digit premium hikes forced upon them.  We cannot put insurance companies back in charge of health care and restore their ability engage in the unsustainable practices that were overwhelming consumers and businesses.

The health of our children, seniors and families in the 7th Congressional District of Alabama and all across this country is at stake and we cannot afford to go backward.  Let’s keep moving forward and making health care work for all of us.”
