Montgomery, AL – On Saturday, April 29, 2017, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) held a reception at the Lowndes Interpretive Center in Hayneville, AL, for the 2017 Seventh Congressional District Art Competition. This year, 76 pieces were submitted from talented high school students across the district. Congresswoman Sewell issues the following statement to recognize the winner, Eva Hutto from Tuscaloosa, AL, and her winning piece entitled, “Try to See What I See:”

“This year’s winner, Eva Hutto, did an amazing job capturing the theme of the 2017 competition, ‘An Artistic Discovery: Communities of the Seventh Congressional District.’ Her piece truly speaks to the diversity and vibrancy of our communities and the need to see the value in others through our own experiences. It is critically important that we create these types of opportunities that encourage and uplift the individual gifts of our children. I am truly proud of Eva, and all of our aspiring artists that submitted entries,” said Rep. Sewell.

The 2nd place winner, Ja'Corey Robinson, 3rd place winner, Julissa Chavez, and Honorable Mention winner, Tionne Moncrief, are all students at Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, AL.

From April 26th through April 29th, the Lowndes Interpretive Center in Hayneville, AL displayed all the artwork submitted in the competition. Ms. Hutto’s winning piece will be featured on Congresswoman Sewell’s website and the website of the U.S. House of Representative. Ms. Hutto will also receive free round-trip airfare for two to Washington, D.C., to attend an official reception honoring the winners from all the Congressional districts around the country.  In addition, her artwork will be showcased in the U.S. Capitol for the next year.
