Washington, DC – Tonight, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s address to the nation on U.S. strategy against ISIS:  

“I fully support the strategy outlined by the President in his speech tonight to immediately expand military action against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). I am committed to supporting the Administration’s objectives to dismantle, disrupt, and destroy ISIS through a comprehensive and sustained counter-terrorism effort and I would support congressional action for additional funding to address the threat of ISIS.

I believe it is imperative that our international allies join us in waging this campaign to take out ISIS without a conventional U.S. military occupation in the region. I support an American strategy that utilizes our air power and intelligence networks, and supports partner forces on the ground. 

We must remain committed to staying the course of eliminating the threat of ISIS and holding these terrorists accountable for the unfathomable brutality they have caused in the region, to American citizens and our allies around the world.”
